Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony no. 40
Maestro Jules Orchestra, conducted by Jules van Hessen

The explanation before the intermission is in Dutch

The romantic period began in the summer of 1788, when Mozart wrote down the final chord of his 40th symphony. What other conclusion can you draw after listening to this dramatic symphony? Poignant dissonances, sad cellos, a stumbling minuet, rocket-like launches of the first violins in the finale... What possessed Mozart? The music drives on passionately and restlessly, like the character of a romantic soul.
