A scratch performance of Handel's Oratorio Messiah involves rehearsing and performing the work in a single day. The participants in this scratch performance—both choir and orchestra members—have rehearsed their parts at home. Under the direction of conductor Jules van Hessen, the participants, including the four vocal soloists, spend a long day rehearsing with concentration. Starting from scratch in the morning, they perform the entire Messiah in the evening in the beautiful St. James's Church!
